Community Links
The pupils at John F. Kennedy Primary benefit from a number of Community Links. We work closely with Biddick Academy and specialist PE staff are frequent visitors to JFK, teaching pupils from Nursery to Year 6. We have also run gifted and talented programmes for Year 6 children at Biddick and have close links for transition from Year 6 to Year 7.
We also enjoy close links with Washington Old Hall. Pupils have enjoyed a number of special projects linked to the Old Hall.
Pupils have also been involved in any events linking Washington UK with Washington DC.
Canon Glover, Trinity Church, visits school on a weekly basis to lead collective worship for both KS1 and KS2 pupils. He also visits school to celebrate key events in the church calendar including Easter and the Harvest Festival.
We enjoy close links with a local Washington Miners Group and JFK is proud to be custodian of both the old and new Glebe Pit banner which is on display in our school hall.
Every September our pupils take part in the Washington Heritage festival. This includes carrying mining and school banners from Front Street in Concord to the festival site at Albany Park.
Washington Rotary club helped our school to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Each year group researched a different commonwealth country, resarching facts, songs, poems and dances. These were shared at a whole school class assembly. The Rotary club were present and very kindly donated some prizes.
Whenever age appropriate shows are being performed at the Arts Centre we are keen to get involved. Staff from the centre have been particularly supportive, regularly offering reduced price tickets. This has meant the whole key stages have been able to enjoy a wide range of performances.
Our pupils enjoy a close relationship with Washington's main library, Mrs Newton and her team go out of their way to make visits to the library engaging for our pupils.
Our most important links are with the families and friends of our pupils. They are regularly invited into school to share class assemblies, sporting events and productions. There are also termly parent / carer consultations and annual curriculum meetings.
